A video showing a man holding a headless child as fire engulfs an area designated for displaced Palestinians in Rafah was uploaded by Abed Rahim Khatib of the Anadolu Agency. The video has been widely shared on social media and has sparked outrage around the world.
Survivors Describe Horrific Scene
Survivors of the Israeli bombing of a Rafah displacement camp described a horrific scene of carnage. "Bodies were scattered around, charred bodies, children without heads, bodies that were melted," said one survivor, Huthifa Fayyad.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said that many of those who died were burned alive inside their homes. The PRCS also reported that at least 58 people were killed and over 500 injured in the attack.
International Condemnation
The Israeli bombing has been condemned by the international community, including the United Nations, the European Union, and the United States. UN Secretary-General António Guterres called the attack "a horrific act of violence" and demanded an immediate end to the bloodshed.
The Israeli government has defended the bombing, saying that it was necessary to stop Hamas from firing rockets into Israel. However, human rights groups have accused Israel of using excessive force and committing war crimes.
